twenty something thoughts

seeing the world through different eyes

It’s been a while since I have been able to appreciate the small things in life. At 24, I really don’t come across new things. Everything seems normal and old and blah blah blah.

Not so much anymore. With the addition of two kittens to our family in
December, the little things I have come to take for granted suddenly take on a new light.

Currently, I am enjoying a light, summer-esque breeze coming through the windows in our sun porch. It’s quiet, airy, peaceful. I can hear the solo Mourning Dove that seems to live outside my house from April through September, letting out it’s high pitched double tweet.

This room becomes my personal sancutary in the summer months. In high school, I’d spend hours sitting here, no matter how hot, with a book and music.

We officially opened the sun porch two weekends ago, opening the doors that connect it to the rest of the house and cranking open the windows, to let it air out.

Milo and Lulu creeped slowly to the door, unsure of what this room was. To them, there was always a window with the unknown on the other side. As they entered the room, their manner seemed to change. They jumped to each window, taking in the new smells spring seems to bring with it.

Now, no matter how chilly the room is (and with New England, cold snaps happen often), they sit at the door until it’s open, each claiming a spot in the sunshine.

Today, the bees started buzzing outside the windows. It used to freak me out, scared that they would actually take down the screen (yea, right. Try again, kid). Now, it’s comforting.

Lulu chased the bees as they explored each window pane. She’d stand on the sill and reach up, actually clawing at the metal screen. Her eyes don’t miss anything, head turning to everything that flies past.

For them, this is all new. They are seven months old, so they have never been through a summer. Even though they are just cats, the curiousity they show with the world fascinates and inspires me.

So people watching is one of my all time favorite things to do. I think you can learn a lot by just quietly observing people around you. (Hint: this is why I love riding trains and subways.)

Anywho, when I found this website, I was psyched. Watching tourists react to this iconic cross walk is fantastic. While some are boring, others are hilarious. You should check out the photo queue at the bottom, there are some pretty sweet pictures (there’s a bride, for goodness sake!)

Enjoy it, and who knows? Maybe I’ll show up on this cam next time I visit family in England…

when a woman is assertive, she’s a bitch. But when a man is assertive, he’s a boss. A boss man.

Did you know…?

…that the groundhog and woodchuck are the same animal?

I didn’t, until today.

Happy Groundhog Day. Fingers crossed the storms in the next week are the last we’ll see of winter.

my biggest pet peeve (in cartoon form)

Maybe people will learn the actual usage of literally now. lol

uh oh…

Discovered the Louboutin website today.

Handbag and Shoe heaven.

I need to find a way to justify buying a $800 purse.

Ryan found this for me, thinking it’d cheer me up.

He was right. Wait until the end.

So it’s been quite some time since we’ve had new music from Chris Brown. I can’t help but admit that this is actually a pretty catchy song.

The video, on the other hand, left me confused. Like, what’s with all of the little kids? Does he think that a little boy yelling “OMG it’s Chris Brown!” will help his public appearance?

There’s also a glaring typo during the poppin’ scene, where the sign says “Popin’ Pete.” Maybe this was done on purpose, but I wasn’t aware that there was a verb for being a pope.

Someone obviously found the best way to get through the Blizzard Lockdown of 2011.

bah

To leave American Eagle and go back to work at Target or not. That’s the big question right now.

Happy holidays everyone!
